Overview
Through the BeaYOUtiful Foundation, I volunteered as a mentor in a series of workshops designed to support confidence, self-expression, and positive identity development among young girls.
As a mentor, my role was to help create a welcoming and encouraging environment where participants could engage in activities, share their thoughts, and feel supported by positive role models. The workshops centered on themes such as self-worth, kindness, friendship, confidence, and personal growth.
Rather than leading from a place of authority, I focused on listening, encouraging participation, and helping participants feel comfortable expressing themselves in their own ways.

Supporting Confidence and Belonging
One of the most meaningful parts of this experience was seeing how small moments of encouragement could help participants feel more comfortable taking up space. Whether through creative activities, conversations, or simple check-ins, the workshops showed me how important it is to create environments where young people feel valued and respected.
This experience also reminded me that confidence-building does not always happen through big gestures. Often, it happens through consistent listening and making sure people feel seen in the moment.

How This Influenced My Work
My time as a BeaYOUtiful mentor strengthened my understanding of facilitation, care, and community-centred support. It helped me think more intentionally about how communication, environment, and non-verbal cues can shape whether people feel comfortable participating.
This experience continues to influence my interest in inclusive design, especially in creating spaces and experiences that feel approachable, supportive, and empowering for the people they are meant to serve.
